Sport Fishing
The sport fishing in Acapulco, especially for sailfish, is legendary. Marlin and swordfish are also abundant here. If your fishing tour includes the mangrove swamps, you'll be amazed by the multitude of heron, pelicans and black-throated divers that accompany you while you fish among the lovely water lilies. Because the Pacific coast of southern Mexico is mountainous, the deep blue water frequented by most big game fish is usually very close to Acapulco Bay. Blue Water Sport fishing reports billfish being caught only 100 yards from the shore!
- Laguna de Chautengo – Also known as Laguna de Nexpan, this lagoon is 72 miles (117 kilometers) from Acapulco. The 7-mile wide lagoon is fed by two rivers, making it a great place to catch freshwater fish.
- Laguna de Tecomate – Also called Laguna de San Marcos, this freshwater fishing lagoon is located 42 miles (68 kilometers) east of Acapulco. The hundreds of bird species that flock to the mangroves will entertain while you wait to snag that big one.
- Puerto Marques – This port has fantastic sport fishing (including swordfish and bass), as well as crabbing opportunities. It's located on only 9 miles (15 kilometers) southeast of Acapulco.
- Laguna de Coyuca – The freshwater shoreline here offers several species of fish. You can also catch a boat to the fantastic fishing waters off the islands of la Isla de los Pajaros and la Isla del Hombre de las Siete Esposas. This lagoon is located only 6 miles north of Acapulco.
