Overlooking a fresh water river in the north eastern slopes of Volcano Tenorio, this rustic lodge features some of the best hospitality and charm you will find in Costa Rica. Surrounded by lush tropical forest, La Carolina Lodge sits on 200 plus acres and has many options to accommodate most everyone’s interest.
Lie in one of the hammocks on the wraparound porch and watch many varieties of exotic birds, sloths and monkeys as the cascading river seems to bring a certain energy to the air. Sunbathe on the wooden deck that overlooks the river, go for a swim, or just relax in the fire heated hot tub. Go on a guided horseback tour and explore the open meadows and nearby streams as you are allowed views of the neighboring Volcanoes, Tenorio and Miravelles. It is all up to you and included in the price of lodging.
La Carolina Lodge has a warm, friendly staff and excellent home-cooked meals, which are cooked over a wood burning stove. The lodge has its own ranch and small dairy that provides fresh milk and homemade cheese. All meals are included in the price and are “platos tipicos”- prepared from delicious, local Costa Rican recipes. They grow their own coffee and also own a citrus grove, which allows them to have the freshest and the best tasting coffee and OJ all day long.
The main lodge sleeps 11 guests comfortably, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Additionally, La Carolina Lodge has 4 additional private cabins with private bathrooms. All meals are served at the main lodge three times a day. This allows the opportunity to meet new guests, which can be very special at night with candles illuminating the lodge, as guest share stories around the wood burning fireplace; a very unique experience.
To add a little excitement, you can take a river rafting trip down one of the local rivers. The Corobici River provides for a quiet and relaxing rafting trip, while the Tenorio River boasts exciting rapids for the more adventurous rafter. Additionally, or if rafting is not your thing, maybe you would like to hike to the infamous Rio Celeste Waterfall, or explore one of the several other nearby attractions. Nearby parks provide exciting and informative day trips into the natural wonder of Costa Rica.
Tenorio National Park: Hike to the extraordinary Rio Celeste waterfall, swim in the blue lagoon and simmer in the hot springs.
Las Pumas: Only 50 minutes away, this wildcat refuge offers an incredible and up-close experience with Native Costa Rican big cats such as jaguars and pumas.
