Stann Creek

The second largest region of Belize, Stann Creek includes the Placencia Peninsula, which is home to some of the best beach vacations in Belize. Activities and Attractions

The Stann Creek region does not disappoint. Here you can take a tour to the world's first jaguar preserve. The national Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary and Jaguar Preserve spans about 150 square miles of tropical forest in the Maya Mountains. The sanctuary reaches to the highest point in Belize, Victoria Peak. At 3,675 feet, Victoria Peak is one of the most popular inland attractions of the Stann Creek region.

The Wildlife Sanctuary and Jaguar Preserve is a wonderful testament to the Belizeans love of nature. This mountain sanctuary is a favorite for those wishing to include hiking, camping, wildlife viewing on their Belize vacations.

Travel Tips

This southern Belize region of Stann Creek is not quite as wet as northern Belize, although there are still the two rainy seasons and two dry seasons detailed in the overview of Belize. The mountains are refreshingly cool (temperatures near Victoria Peak can drop into the 40's), so whatever time of year you go be sure to bring a variety of clothing. Also be sure to book ahead because tours fill fast.
